The Arts Program at Foothills Academy is at the very core of the schools mission to educate the whole child. Through art, music, and theatre, Foothills Academy students make personal statements as they perceive the world around them.
The program offers a variety of techniques and approaches to express -- as well as the basic skills to appreciate -- the arts throughout life. It also provides the means for students to communicate academic knowledge and content in creative ways. Students combine artistic expression with higher-order thinking. The goal is for graduating students to have, at minimum, a working vocabulary of, basic skills in, and a sense of the social connection of theater, art, and music, as well as the ability to express themselves in a meaningful way in at least one of these disciplines. |
Opportunities to develop and showcase their skills begin with show-and-tell and theatrical presentations for peers in Kindergarten and increase with grade levels. Academic teachers create hands-on projects for students to communicate intellectual concepts. Presentations also include visual art displays in all classrooms and school buildings; plays, performances, and festival events that incorporate visual, musical, and theatrical presentations; and the All-School Arts Festival, when every student is represented in one or more of the arts and honored for their efforts. See the Visual Arts Program, Music Program and Theater Program pages for more information.

Shadows
I lit a candle in a dark room
throwing shadows like clay,
making images on the walls.
The flickering fire
makes the shadows
look like theyre crawling along,
hoping to get away.
