Overview

Foothills Academy is an independent, co-educational, K – 12 day school located in Wheat Ridge, CO, near Golden, and serving a 40-mile radius. Accredited by the Association of Colorado Independent Schools, Foothills Academy was founded in 1984 by area parents and teachers committed to the unique vision of a school that would:

  • teach the whole child—mind, body, spirit, intellect and values
  • honor each child’s learning style, gifts and challenges in an intimate classroom setting
  • provide an outstanding curriculum enriched with arts, athletics, foreign language, computer and lab sciences, service to community and outdoor education
  • honor the gifts that diversity of all kinds bring to the school community
  • partner with parents as the primary educators of their children
  • offer ongoing opportunities for parents to be crucial contributors to the life of the school

Fifteen years later, Foothills Academy, now a member of the National Association of Independent Schools, offers its families and students:

  • a small, safe, nurturing learning environment
  • a 16:1 student-teacher classroom ratio, K - 12
  • a dynamic, experiential and integrated college-preparatory curriculum enhanced with cultural, historic, and science-based day trips; overnight outings; on-campus enrichment assemblies; and festivals, celebrations, and long-standing traditions that embrace the entire school community
  • a commitment to diversity in learning styles, culture and life circumstances within the school community
  • strong, academic preparation for post-high-school education
  • teacher/counselor advocacy and advisement, opportunities for advance placement and college-level courses, and individualized help and support outside the classroom, K – 12

Day

Day flies by
on little bird wings
calling to the nightingale.
In the summer
the nightingale comes late,
in the winter
early,
but still
day flies by
on little bird wings.
